Valencia midfielder Juan Mata has unfortunately played down a possible move to Arsenal and is concentrating on preparing for the new La Liga season.
Following a number of encouraging performances last term, the 23 year old impressed for Spain’s Under-21 side that won the European Championships in Denmark last month, and has attracted interest from a number of clubs, and Arsenal were in the hot seats to gain his signature.
Despite all the transfer rumours, Mata was quick to allay suggestions he could be leaving Valencia, insisting his priority is achieving full fitness before the start of the season.
“It is true that teams have been linked with me but this is a good sign that I am playing well,” Mata told Lasprovincias
“Despite all the rumours, I have to stay calm and step away from all the speculation. I am well aware of the rumours but this is not the first summer I have had to deal with this so they do not worry me.
“My aim now is to make sure I am ready for the start of the new season and keep improving as a player. I want to win more trophies.”

It seems highly unlikely then that Mata will be at Arsenal this summer, but perhaps next summer Arsenal may be able to gain the services of the 23 year old, however will Wenger still be interested in Mata if he steps up his interested for the Belgian superstar Eden Hazard?
