Goal.com claims that Reading are the front-runners to seal the move with a deal expected to be all wrapped up in the first week of the January transfer window for approximately £4m, although former club Zenit and Fulham still remain interested parties.
The Russian certainly started his career with a bang, but has fallen heavily down the pecking order hardly featuring for the Gunners this season.
Always considered somewhat of an enigma, it is quite clear that the little Russian has had the talent to succeed, but a combination of being played out of position and his poor work-rate and form had resigned Arshavin to the bench.
Although he has been criticized heavily by many fans, I feel it is unfair to fully blame the Russian for his largely disappointing spell at the Emirates. I still feel he could have been used much more effectively by Wenger.
One thing is for certain however, he must be let go considering the wages he gets for simply sitting on the bench. It would certainly free up some funds to throw at Walcott who is reportedly holding out for more cash.
