After looking like he would become a solid substitute from pre-season performances by carving out a tap-in merchant persona, it has been revealed the Mexican striker Carlos Vela will not be playing this season at the Emirates.
The Mexican has had multiple loan spells in Spain with UD Salamance and Osasuna and more recently with West Brom in the Premier League, and now according to his agent Eduardo Hernandez he is set to return to La Liga on loan.
It is a shame for Vela, who I thought had proven himself to be a potential substitute for Arsenal in the Premier League, although in saying this more first team opportunities for the Mexcian would also be welcome and hopefully he gets more action than at West Brom.
Vela’s agent Hernandez said to ESPN on the situation: “I’m going to fly to London tonight to finalise things with Arsenal.
“We have three teams in Spain that have made offers and we think that playing in Spain would be a good move for Carlos. Arsenal are happy for him to go out on loan and we hope to find a solution by next week.”
Although deemed to not have the attributes just yet to make the Arsenal squad, I have faith that Vela will break into the team sooner or later. He showed signs of brilliance in pre-season with cheeky and ruthless finishing when he had the opportunities to go for goal and has great pace and trickery to match. All the attributes for a star forward, he just has to put it all together in a consistent manner.
