With speculation about Arsenal losing two of our most creative footballers high, it has been reported that Wenger has lined up Spanish midfielder Santi Cazorla as a possible replacement if either of the two leave the club, with other target Juan Mata looking less and less likely to be signed.
Cazorla, who plays for Villareal, is a proven player who has played at international level for Spain and is a star player for the yellow submarine. He has made 127 appearances, and in the 2010/11 season scored 7 goals and provided 13 assists. He is known for his pace and ability to comfortably play with either foot.
With Cazorla sought after by wealthy club Malaga, Arsenal face stiff competition if they indeed decide to pursue the Spanish midfielder, although Villareal are reluctant to sell their prized player to a rival club in La Liga. Malaga are said to have tabled a £20m bid already that has been turned down.
Although finance is one issue another factor influences the departure of Cazorla, and that is whether fellow star player Rossi departs or not. It is reported that Villareal are comfortable with losing one of their key men but are very reluctant to lose two.
If Rossi does stay though, Arsenal are reported to be in pole position to acquire Cazorla’s signature and bring him to North London. I would definitely invite the move if Cesc or Samir do leave and leave a creative void in our midfield. Also being versatile in being able to play on both wings, due to his talent with both feet, he brings more depth to the Arsenal squad. If the gunners are to experience injuries to the likes of Walcott, Arshavin or Miyachi this means the likes of Ramsey can take up the mantle in the middle of midfield with Cazorla fitting in on the wing. What do you think abut Cazorla? Would he be a great signing if Nasri or Fabregas were to leave? Leave your comment below!
