Roberto Mancini has reignited City’s interest in Arsenal’s Player of the Year Robin van Persie this summer, however the Italian believes the strikers situation is different to Na$ri’s and Clichy’s.
The Dutchman has still yet to sign a new contract with his current deal expiring next summer as he seeks assurances over Arsenal’s future and their title winning hopes.
The Gunners naturally do not want to loose their star player this summer and have even suggested that they are willing to loose him for free at the end of next season, however Wenger said the same about Samir Na$ri last summer and he eventually departed for City.
Mancini has suggested they will only indulge in the transfer market for a striker if one of their own leave, but with Edin Dzeko linked to Bayern this summer, then the cash-rich Etihad Stadium bosses may sanction a big money move for Van Persie.
Mancini told Tuttosport:
We will sign a striker if one of our forwards will leave. We want to keep all of them.

Van Persie is a top-class player. His situation is different than the [Gael] Clichy and [Samir] Nasri ones, when we signed them. It was difficult to keep them at London for [Arsene] Wenger.
It’s impossible to sign [Napoli striker Edinson] Cavani at his current price, Van Persie it’s different. Cavani has everything. I wanted him when I was at Inter and he didn’t score so many goals.
City are currently favourites to land Van Persie if he leaves North London this summer, however I’m still certain he will stay for next season with a new contract or not.
The important thing for RVP is to have a quality Euro tournament and remain injury free. If Wenger remains active in the transfer market and can bring in M’Vila and another striker then the rest will fall into place.
Arsenal definitely require more depth in all areas of the squad especially with the hectic fixture schedule when Cup and Champions league matches force the Gunners to play a match every few days.
So it’s quite simple for Wenger really, sell the surplus players and buy some real quality and RVP’s future will be secured.
