Birmingham defender Scott Dann has been hotly tipped to leave St. Andrews this transfer window in the wake of the blues relegation to the Championship after last season, with the Englishman being linked with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Stoke.
After being heavily linked with Samba, Cahill and Jagielka there was no speculation that Arsenal would move for Dann, but as a result of failed attempts to land any of the three defenders it seems Arsene has turned his attentions to Birmingham’s solid defender and has opened preliminary talks according to Sky Sports.
The desperation to sign a centre-back has been an ongoing affair for Arsenal with clear weaknesses at the back the root cause of the gunners inability to attain silverware, the likes of which have recently been seen in pre-season with Arsenal conceding soft goals.
With the need for a centre-back clear, it has been reported that assistant manager Pat Rice and chief scout Steve Rowley were impressed by Dann’s performance against Tottenham last week.
Personally, I am not sure whether signing Dann would be a wise move, although in saying this I have not seen him play after his hamstring tear in January ruled him out the back-end of the Premier League.
If indeed he is on par with the likes of Samba, Jagielka and Cahills I would have no quarrels about him making a move to the Emirates. Although a great part of me feels that he simply does not possess the quality of these three players and perhaps would not be the greatest move. What do you think? Is he good enough to solidify our shaky defence? Or is one of our other targets a more suitable choice? Leave a comment below!
