Yesterday allArsenal.com reported that the Gunners are interested in Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski who has bagged an impressive 20 goals this season, but now its attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa who is making headlines after declining a contract extension.
Kagawa is entering his final year of his contract this summer and has refused to extend his deal that would see Dortmund double his wages to €6 million, but the attacking midfielder wants to leave for England.
The 23-year-old Japanese international is rated at around £15 million with both Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly interested in the playmaker. He certainly has justified the high price tag despite only one year remaining on his contract after an impressive campaign that has seen Kagawa has score 16 goals and provide 12 assists in all competitions this season, a decent tally for a midfielder.
Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc has admitted that one of his array of stars Kagawa may well be sold this summer after the rejection of a contract extension, and has told the media that his playmaker is eager to play in England.

Zorc told Bild:
We have a new offer for Shinji and his agent, but he is not willing to sign it. Shinji is planning his own career and he has the desire to play football in England.
While there is no economic need to sell him, he has a certain market value so we have to follow this with an economic sense. We will continue to have dialogue, but if another club expresses an interest then we will listen.
It seems that Dortmund are becoming Arsenal’s feeder club with the huge amount of players being linked with the German champions. They certainly have been churning out some talented players, with the Gunners purchasing Thomas Eisfeld in January who has already become a star in the reserve team that could get the call-up to the first team next season, and Arsene Wenger extremely keen on starlet Mario Gotze.
The German international playmaker has been continually linked with Wenger’s side but speculation has essentially halted after the 19-year-old signed a contract extension, so now a number of Dortmund players have been linked with the Gunners. So the question is should Shinji Kagawa be a viable transfer target for Wenger?
I haven’t seen a lot of the Japanese start so it’s difficult to say on a personal level but his statistics for this season has been impressive, last season he was named in the Bundesliga best XI and even scored against the Gunners at the Emirates in the return leg of the Champions League group stage.
21 goals to his name in only 48 appearances for Borussia Dortmund is certainly an exceptional record for an attacking midfielder and his goal scoring prowess would be a welcomed addition to Arsenal’s midfield whose only first team attacking midfielders Ramsey and Rosicky barely get on the scoresheet. But the Premier League is a totally different kettle of fish and is a far more physical league, either way I think I would welcome the addition of Kagawa to the Gunners side, although it is difficult to see anything eventuating from this rumour.
