Following yesterdays backlash concerning comments made by rumoured Arsenal target Christopher Samba, it has been reported by the Telegraph that the gunners have increased their bid for other high priority transfer target Phil Jagielka.
The toffee’s defender has long been linked with Arsenal, and it seems Arsene Wenger not willing to give up of the experienced centre-back after a reported failed bid of £10m last week that was confirmed by chairman Peter Hill-Wood, rumoured to now negotiate up to £15m in order to test cash-strapped Everton’s resolve.
Everton rates the defender at £18m, although with long negotiations yesterday perhaps the price tag can be peppered down by Arsenal, which is surely a known transfer policy of Arsene Wenger.
Moyes is surely feeling the time crunch, and with only a limited time to reel in his own new recruitments it is understood he could only do this by gaining funds through player sales.
That time has come that Wenger said he would be active in the market, and perhaps things are finally getting serious with Arsene finally ready to show his hand. To see that it is also a proven central defender is also a good sign for Arsenal fans.
As for the price, perhaps it would be smarter to go for the younger target Cahill in the long run, but it just takes looking at the likes of John Terry to see that veteran players can still be the best in the game. Hopefully Jagielka can follow his example at Arsenal!
