Probably the most ludicrous rumour ever has surfaced today – Arsenal have entered the race to sign ‘want away’ Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
Goal.com have reported the England international is seeking an exit from the Champions because of the impending arrival of former manager David Moyes and his less glamorous involvement in United’s season that has seen him play second fiddle to Van Persie.
Their basis for linking the Gunners with United’s talisman is not only the fact that Wenger requires a top drawer striker, but Henry was paid the similar extortionate wages in his final year of his time in North London.
My barber (who thinks he knows everything about sport) is adamant that Wenger has first option to buy a United striker this summer as part of the deal that saw Van Persie leave the Emirates – because why else would Wenger sell his prized asset to his rival Sir Alex? Because Arsenal’s board are gold diggers, that’s why!
While I would love for my barber to somehow be right, it’s just not going to happen! If Rooney left Old Trafford his only likely destination would be PSG or Madrid – away from England. Plus why on earth would the England leave the most successful club in England to join a club whose most enthralling part of the season is the battle for third/fourth spot.
