According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners have been quoted a hefty price of £15million for Stoke City’s star stopper Asmir Begovic.
Arsene Wenger may need to explore the goalkeeping market this summer with Lukasz Fabianski’s contract expiring and Vito Mannone heading for an inevitable exit, leaving Wojciech Szczesny as the only high calibre pair of gloves competing for a first team place.
According to the report the North London club have already opened preliminary talks with Stoke over a potential deal after a failed attempt in January.
The likes of Petr Cech, Pepe Reina, Victor Valdes and more recently Iker Casillas have been linked, but it is the established Premier League and Bosnian international Begovic that is gaining plenty of attention from England’s top clubs.
Rumours of his exit from Stoke have been fueled even further by the Potters acquiring young England international Jack Butland in January who was sent back out loan to Birmingham and will challenge for a spot next season.

There is a real possibility that Stoke will sell this summer if the Gunners can stump up the cash, however £15m is a massive sum for a goalkeeper. Wenger just has to tie Fabianski down to a new deal and he will then have two top shot stoppers competing for a starting birth with highly rated youngster Damian Martinez waiting in the wings for first team opportunities.
While I would welcome the acquisition of Begovic I find it difficult to see the prudent Arsene Wenger forking out such a massive goalkeeper fee especially if he has two Polish internationals at his disposal.
