According to The Mirror, Arsenal are expected to wrap up a deal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Southampton this week for an overall £12million.
The 17 year old winger has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects in England, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool were keen on the player but Arsenal have won the race.
The initial down payment will be around £7 million and the fee will rise according to appearances.
Apparently Oxlade-Chamberlain is unlikely to be leased back to Southampton on loan for the season with Wenger wanting to involve him as soon as possible in the first team environment at The Emirates and plans to use him in the Carling Cup.
Is this a signing that will add ‘super quality’ as Wenger mentioned this weekend? I tend to believe not, he’s an exciting talent yes, but one for the future.. as always. Do we really need another youngster up-and-comer? Again I guess we will just have to trust Wenger if this rumour does unfold to be true, who knows he could become England’s Lionel Messi?
