Its been reported that Bayern Munich are set to enter the race to sign German starlets and Gunners targets Mario Gotze and Marco Reus.
The Gunners are well known admirers of the pair after facing Gotze once this season, and are set to do so again this week in the Champions League, and have been tracking Reus. It has allowed Wenger and his scouts to get a decent look at the duo in action, however Bayern have now earmarked them as potential transfer targets.
Goetze,19, scored Borussia Dortmund’s winner against Munich on Saturday in the Bundasliga, while Reus, 22, scored a hat-trick in Borussia Moenchengladbach’s 5-0 demolition of Werder Bremen and the duo are setting the Bundesliga alight this season.
Munich’s Rummenigge told Sunday newspaper Welt am Sonntag:
Goetze is a magnificent player despite being only 19 years old. Of course we observe such players. Reus has a clause in his contract that isn’t exactly cheap (but) he could give us even more quality in the long run.
With interest in the duo heating up around Europe with big spenders Manchester City and now Bayern Munich registering their interest a bidding war is inevitable most likely next summer rather than in January. Will Wenger move for any of the two? It seems unlikely that he will purchase Gotze with Ramsey and Wilshere rated highly by the Frenchman, and with the likes of Arteta, Diaby, Song and Rosicky competing for places the Gunners midfield is surprisingly stacked. But Gotze would possess the ability to make Arsenal serious title contenders, just as Fabregas once did.
The more likely candidate would have to be Reus who would add some extra flare to the Gunners and would be an excellent replacement for Arshavin who is likely to end his stay at the Emirates possibly as early as January. Reus is a versatile attacking winger that can play across the front too which will be excellent for the Gunners to add more options up front.
