With the winter transfer window soon approaching we’ve decided to have a look at the transfer specials on Skybet to gain a different perspective on how likely the Gunners are to sign some of their targets this January.
It seems Arsenal are high on the list to sign a number of players as per usual, with potential targets Marouane Fellaini, Yann M’Vila and Yohan Cabaye possible acquisitions according to the transfer odds.
Arsene Wenger’s side is in poll position to sign Newcastle’s Cabaye and Rennes bad boy M’Vila, as well as joint second favorites with Chelsea for Fellaini’s signature. Check out the odds below and if you want to bet on the transfers then click here to view the odds and here to register with Skybet.
Marouane Fellaini – joint second favourites at 5/1
The versatile Everton midfielder has been making waves this season playing a more suitable attacking role that has seen the Belgian net six times already this season.
The Afroman has been a mainstay in David Moyes’ side since his 2008 arrival from Standard Liège and added fuel to the fire recently when he stated this would be one of his last seasons with the Merseyside outfit despite signing a new deal last May with his original contract set to expire in 2013. He is craving Champions League football which is natural for a player of his calibre and many of the top clubs in England are monitoring his situation closely.
Currently Manchester United are favourites at 9/2 Closely followed by Arsenal and Chelsea at 5/1.
Manchester Utd 9/2
Yann M’Vila – favourites at 11/8
The Frenchman has been strongly linked with the Gunners for two summers now and it seemed that a deal in the past transfer window would have eventuated, however with Wenger placing faith in youngster Francis Coquelin and Emmanuel Frimpong as backups to Arteta and Diaby, a move never materialized.

The combative midfielder has had his fair share of discipline over the past year, and has just been handed a lengthy ban for the French national side which will see him suspended until 2014 after caught out at a nightclub during the past Euro’s.
With Frimpong’s contract set to expire next year and new terms reportedly unlikely, Arteta aging and Diaby injury prone, a deal this winter could prove an ideal time for the Frenchman to get his career back on track with Arsenal and have time to adjust to English life ahead of the following season.
A move to Arsenal is rated at 11/8 with the Spuds the next likely candidates at 7/1.
Manchester City 10/1
Manchester Utd 12/1
Yohan Cabaye – favourites at 4/1
Cabaye is yet another Frenchman linked to the Emirates, and the former Lille man has been in fine form since his arrival from Ligue One in 2011 that has seen him linked with a move the Spuds as well as United.
The French international is highly rated by his National side’s manager Didier Deschamps, and after some brilliant performances for Les Blues during the Euro 2012 competition, the creative Newcastle midfielder looks destined for bigger things.
Although the Gunners have Wilshere back, Cazorla is the only out and out attacking midfielder fit so Wenger will be keen to add more reinforcements to the midfield come January especially with the Spaniard seeming jaded of late with the heavy Arsenal fixture schedule.
Arsenal are currently joint first favourites at 4/1 with Manchester United, while the Spuds are the next lowest paying odds at 9/1.
Manchester Utd 4/1
AC Milan 16/1
Manchester City 16/1
Real Madrid 16/1
Willian (Shakhtar Donetsk) to Arsenal 16/1
Demba Ba (Newcastle) to Arsenal 14/1
Kaka (Real Madrid) to Arsenal 10/1
Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea) to Arsenal 33/1
Joao Moutinho (F.C. Porto) to Arsenal 14/1
It is very difficult to see Fellaini becoming a Gunner with the likes of United and Chelsea interested as, per usual, Wenger will be outbid by breakfast time. He could be a useful acquisition as he would add a different dimension to Arsenal’s game and provide more steel in midfield. However it is more likely that we will see Cabaye or M’Vila make the switch to the Emirates before the Belgian, and the French duo could add some serious firepower to Wenger’s lineup.
Since Song’s departure and Diaby completely and utterly injury-prone, Arsenal’s midfield has lacked physicality which could potentially be the issue with Arsenal’s defence as they are constantly becoming exposed. M’Vila could help to cure this, however it is unknown what Wenger’s stance is on the Frenchman after a number of disciplinary issues which has further fuel his ‘bay boy’ rebellious image.
Cabaye on the other hand is a hardworking, attack minded midfielder that can add further class and reinforcement to Arsenal’s frontline. He would be brilliant competition for Cazorla and would be a strong option from the bench. However knowing Wenger the likes of the aging Rosicky, the often ineffective Ramsey and Alex ‘he-will-turn-into-a-central-midfielder-one-day-like-walcott-will-be-a-striker’ Oxlade-Chamberlain will be preferred rather than spending the club’s available money.
So in conclusion, will we actually get any of the three ‘heavily linked’ midfielders? Fellaini seems highly unlikely and I was suprised when I saw the odds of 5/1, however Cabaye’s 4/1 and M’Vila’s 11/8 odds seem fair and could be worth a punt with both the French midfielders keen to further their careers at a bigger club and would be acquirable at half of Fellaini’s asking price.
