Numerous sources inlcuding the Sun, the Daily Mail, the Mirror, the Telegraph and Goal.com are claiming the Rennes star midfielder Yann M’Vila is close to or has already reached an agreement with Arsenal claimed to be in the region of £17m.
The Frenchman has been on Arsene Wenger’s wishlist for some time with Arsenal reportedly bidding for the highly-rated midfielder at the end of last season.
M’Vila has talked about possible moves to numerous clubs already and hinted towards a move to the Emirates after revealing a ‘French coach’ had called him over a possible move and that it ‘changes everything’ and is also apparently more keen on a move to the Premier League.
It has been reported that Arsenal officials are confident of finalizing an agreement provided that the club maintain third and guarantee Champions League football next season to both fund the deal and lure M’Vila, which means Arsenal must be victorious against West Brom this Sunday.
After Arsenal’s recent draw against Norwich last weekend, the need for a pure defensive midfielder has never been clearer with Song looking to provide a more offensive role in the team and no-one else with adequate experience to cover him when he is either caught up-field or simply not available for selection from the outset.

His arrival would certainly provide more options in terms of rotation and tactics for Wenger and certainly more solidity in midfield, but I wouldn’t count my chickens until it has been officially announced.
In any case, if he is signed it is also hoped the combined effect of signing Podolski and M’Vila will go some way in persuading Robin van Persie to stay and extend his contract at the Emirates.
What do you guys think? Would M’Vila be a good signing? If he were to come to the Emirates what would your new Arsenal midfield look like? Do you think Song deserves to have a more advanced role in the team? Feel free to leave a comment below!
