According to The Daily Star, Arsene Wenger has made Eden Hazard his top target for the coming transfer window in January, after failing in a £28million bid last month.
“The deal was very close to happening but it couldn’t be done in time,” said an Emirates source.
“Negotiating had all but been done but Lille didn’t have a suitable player to come in for Hazard so it fell short.
“But Arsene will make it come January.”
Despite stealing Chu Young Park away from Ligue 1 side Lille at the last minute, relations between the two clubs had thought to have been ruined, but the Gunners are believed to be in the running for the young Belgium superstar’s signature come January, with Liverpool emerging as tough competition with their recent loaning of Joe Cole to Lille.
Hazard is believed to be the long-term successor of Cesc Fabregas, but I doubt that Lille will want to loose their star player in the middle of the season, a bid next summer is far more likely, especially from Arsenal.
