We’re all calling for a big name striker to be signed this summer, and reports are suggesting we’re willing to make an audacious £50m bid for Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, according to the Mirror.
The prolific Polish forward has been absolutely phenomenal since making the move from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich, and is unquestionably among the best strikers in the world right now. The fact that he’s apparently a top target of ours is great news, although in all honesty it’s hard to see him actually leaving Bayern in the immediate future.
A big new contract means he’s got three years left on his current deal (via the Mirror), and unless the German giants have a replacement in mind it seems highly unlikely they’d be willing to let him leave.
The Metro suggest his recent comments hint at a desire to play in England, but even if he does want to play in England some day that doesn’t mean he’s planning on moving this summer.
Even if the 27-year-old did have plans to play in the Premier League next season and was hoping for a move, would £50m even cut it? He’s one of the deadliest strikers on the planet, still has plenty of years left in him, and is plying his trade with one of the best teams in the game. They’d have no reason to sell, so unless we can more than match their valuation it’s hard to see this one being any more than a pipe dream.
