Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi has reportedly watched Paris Saint-Germain starlet Adrien Rabiot on Sunday, according to reports in French publication Le Parisien.
The 18 year old has made a great start to the season with PSG and has risen to prominence around Europe, subsequently he has been linked with a move away from the French club.
The report states that Arsene Wenger has joined Jose Mourinho in enquiring over the player this season, with this not being the first time Arsenal have been attracted to the prospect. It further states that Gunners chief scout Gilles Grimandi was spotted at the Parc de Princes for last Sunday’s 4-0 win over Lyon, seemingly proving that Wenger’s thoughts have not swayed far from the youngster.
Tottenham were thought to be in pole position in the race for the youngster, who it is believed is sceptical about his chances of garnering regular game time at his current club, but now Chelsea and Arsenal have muscled their way in.
Contract negotiations between PSG and the player have reportedly stalled, with Rabiot’s current contract ending in June 2015, meaning he could be snapped up on the cheap if the French side fail in their attempts to tie him down. His potential exit could be accelerated if PSG coach Laurent Blanc gets his wish to bring in another experienced midfielder in the January transfer window.
Rabiot came through the ranks at Paris Saint-Germain and is one of the rising stars of the French game. He has been impressive for the Ligue 1 champions whenever he has appeared this term, but with more experienced and expensive players around him, his first-team opportunities are somewhat more limited than he would perhaps like. He spent part of 2012-13 on loan at Toulouse and has represented France at various youth levels, making three appearances for the Under-21 side.

He is a rampaging, skilful central midfielder who’s capable of battling as well as creating in the final third and is predominantly left footed. He has all the quality associated with players of a lefty persuasion and while he has much to learn in the game, there’s no doubting there is plenty in his repertoire right now to command a place in the starting line-up of most clubs. He plays more central, operating between the defence and attack, starting offensive moves while breaking up the threat of the opposition.
There is no doubt that he is one of the brightest talents in France right now but we don’t need him in January considering the wealth of options we currently have in that position. Wenger should however keep an eye on him for the long term considering we have couple of players in midfield who are past their thirties. Arsenal should really concentrate all their efforts on bringing a big name striker before pondering any other moves.
