Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola.
The 25-year-old is likely to have impressed watchers, scoring in a 4-2 Primeira Liga win over Rio Ave on Saturday evening.
Danilo joined Porto from Maritimo in 2015, signing a five-year and reportedly has a release clause of £34.5 million.
The midfielder has flourished during his time at the club and played a key role in Portugal’s Euro 2016 win last summer in France.
Arsenal are currently struggling for defensive midfielders with Santi Cazorla out for the long-term, Granit Xhaka facing a four-game ban and Mohamed Elneny away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Indeed Elneny looks set to miss a further few weeks with Egypt looking good to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.

That leaves just Francis Coquelin, recently back from an injury lay-off, and Aaron Ramsey as the club’s only central midfield options.
While Cazorla is expected to stay at the club for another year, after the club activated an option in his contract, he is nearing the end of his career and injuries are taking their toll at the moment.
Xhaka’s future at the club is also a topic of speculation at the moment following the midfielder’s red card against Burnley with some reports claiming he is set for showdown talks with Wenger.
Danilo would certainly be a viable option and this is not the first time the Gunners have been linked with a move.
One potential stumbling block is the price and whether Arsenal would be willing to spend big on a defensive midfielder for the second summer running.
