Arsene Wenger is apparently keen on bringing Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante to Arsenal this summer, with the manager already holding talks with the Foxes over a potential deal, as reported by France Football.
The talks were allegedly held in London recently, with Wenger wanting to get a deal done for the French midfielder as soon as possible. He has set a deadline for the completion of the deal, with the 10th of June being touted by France Football.
The report also discusses Kante’s £20m release clause, which Wenger is presumably willing to meet – if he hasn’t already activated it. Leicester would be unlikely to let one of their star men – and a PFA Team of the Year player – go for anything less than that, so you have to imagine that £20m will be the fee paid.
That should mean that all that’s left to be discussed is personal terms, and to see whether Kante actually wants to leave Leicester. The Foxes may have Champions League football next season, but they are unlikely to experience the same unprecedented success. They may therefore look to cash in on their prize assets now before they depreciate, while they can still get a premium for them as Premier League winners.
With the likes of Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta, and Tomas Rosicky potentially coming to the ends of their respective Arsenal careers, we will unquestionably need a signing or two this summer. We’ve still got plenty of options in midfield, but we’ve seen the impact of injuries in the past and the havoc they can play on our season.

Kante was among the best midfielders in the world this season, not only proving to be a rock in the heart of midfield defensively, but also carrying the ball forward and starting attacks well too. This is exactly what we need at Arsenal, and would provide Wenger with another option to choose from.

We’ll no doubt be facing some serious competition for his signature, but if talks are ongoing then things are clearly moving forward. Wenger may be looking to put a deadline on the deal so he has plenty of time to look at other options, which would be a refreshing change from his usual act of waiting until deadline day to get any deals done.
