Arsenal will officially announce the arrival of Mathieu Debuchy as our second summer signing on Thursday, according to reports in the Express.
The French international has been heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal for some weeks now, following the departure of fellow Frenchman Bacary Sagna. The Gunners have also been linked with Ivory Coast full-back Serge Aurier, but it seems they have settled on Debuchy after his fine performances for France at the World Cup.
The report states that the French full-back is on the verge of securing £10 million move to the Emirates, with the Toon already preparing for life without him, by finalising a deal for Holland’s Daryl Janmaat. The former Lille man was to become an Arsenal player later this week, but now it seems he will be unveiled as an Emirates man as early as Thursday.
The 28 year old will become Arsenal’s second signing of the summer following Alexis Sanchez’s mega-money move from Barcelona, and the Frenchman could swiftly be followed by fellow right-back Javier Manquillo.
Debuchy is a ready-made player for the Premier League and would seemingly slot straight into the Arsenal first team. He would be a shrewd replacement for the outgoing Sagna and would provide sustained stability to the Gunners defence.
The aspect of his game that will excite Arsenal fans most, however, is his attacking ability. He has that extra burst of pace that Sagna has unfortunately lost through age and two leg breaks. That’s not to say Sagna doesn’t contribute to the attack, but Debuchy will offer the Gunners something different.

The Frenchman has a bit more directness in his play, and his pace means that he’s capable of taking on defenders. He is by far and away the most suitable replacement for Sagna and being available at a decent price, he is a perfect fit for Arsenal. Interestingly the Gunners have also been linked with a swoop for Javi Manquillo from Atletico Madrid, who also plays at right-back. This could mean Jenkinson would be allowed to leave on loan to develop his game and gain some valuable first team experience.
