Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly in a three-way battle for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Luiz Adriano alongside Italian champions Juventus, according to reports from The Metro.
The Brazilian forward, whose contract is due to expire in January 2016, has been in electric form for the Ukrainian champions this term with nine Champions League goals in six group stage games – the tournament’s highest tally.
The report suggests Serie A title-holders Juventus are overwhelming favourites to land the forward. However both Arsenal and Liverpool have now entered the race to lure Adriano away from the Italian club, with the player likely to be available at a cut-price transfer fee.
Shakhtar don’t want to lose their star striker, but due to the current political situation and heavy fighting around the area of Donetsk, plenty of the club’s foreign stars are expected to move this summer.
He is going to be among the hottest names on the transfer market at the end of the season and more clubs are expected to emerge as possible suitors. This could drive up the eventual transfer fee, but the Brazilian still looks like the potential steal of the summer.
The Gunners don’t have a desperate need for another attacker but could certainly use an upgrade in that area, and thanks to the Brazilian’s expiring contract, he could be incredible value for money. We currently have enough fire power at the front but adding more is never bad, is it?
