The rumours of a striker arriving at the Emirates this summer seem to be heating up once again, and at this point our pursuit of Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema is the worst kept secret in football (via the Metro).
But as the report suggests, Arsene Wenger has identified an alternative to the French forward, with the manager preparing for a scenario in which he misses out on his top target. The Metro cites reports in Spain, which claim we are planning a £35.5m move for wantaway Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.
The Uruguayan is a top quality forward, but has been playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic for quite some time. It’s understandable that he would be looking for a new challenge, and the lure of the Premier League is certainly an attractive one.
Cavani might not be as popular a choice as Benzema, but with the £45m (via the Metro) fee being touted for the Santiago Bernabeu resident, Cavani would certainly prove a cheaper option.
Arsenal transfer news
The 28-year-old has all the attributes necessary to thrive in the English top flight, and with very few top quality strikers available at the moment, we can’t afford to turn our noses up at a player of his calibre.
