Arsenal are reportedly set to offer Olivier Giroud a two-year extension to his contract at the Emirates, according to reports in the Mirror.
The 27 year old scored 16 goals in the Premier League last season, taking his record to 39 goals in 98 games for the Gunners. The striker is currently on duty with France at the World Cup, an the report suggests he will sign a two-year extension upon his return.
It further states the Frenchman had been in talks with Arsenal ahead of the World Cup and an agreement in principle has been reached for a new deal.
There were some concerns over the striker’s future at Arsenal last season, when some personal troubles led to speculation that he might move back to France. But he seems to be more at ease now and is said to be keen on extending his stay in London by a couple more years.
Giroud started last season in exceptional form scoring four goals in the opening four games, working in tandem with the attacking midfielders running off him. His early-season form was excellent, but he couldn’t maintain it as goals began to dry up, however he made up for it with excellent creativity and high work rate.
He struggled during the mid-season when many of our creative and quick players were out injured, but he did improve when key men returned, going on another hot scoring run in the last few matches. It was quite evident for the majority of the season that he needed a rest. When fit, Giroud’s statistics were quite good and the Frenchman will be a useful squad player if Wenger brings in a major striker this summer.

The fans will unanimously agree that his greatest contribution for the club comes in terms of his hold up play and excellent work rate, while his goal return and an eye for a pass too are improving considerably. He has become an indispensable part of Wenger’s squad and with the Gunners aiming to build upon our last year’s successful run, he will certainly be expected to play a big role for the side.
