Joel Campbell hasn’t found life easy since making a move to the Emirates, and looks set to leave the club this summer. Palermo are apparently willing to match our valuation of the player, and are looking to bring him to Italy this season, as reported by the Metro.
There has been plenty of interest in the Costa Rican ever since his superb display at the World Cup last summer, but it seemed we were yet to have our valuation met. The report cites reports in Spain however, which claim the Serie A side have agreed to pay the £7.1m Arsene Wenger is looking for.
We arguably could have got far more for the young forward if we sold him after the World Cup, as his stock was certainly on the rise after his trip to Brazil. His lack of game time and distinctly average performances this past season have seen the interest cool slightly, but he doesn’t appear to have a future at the club.

That said, if Wenger had have offloaded the 23-year-old right after the World Cup and he went on to be a success at another club, then there would have been ructions from the fans.
It seems everyone has accepted now that he isn’t of the required calibre to play at Arsenal, so a move seems best for everyone. He has barely featured for the first team and was absent for our entire pre-season, so he is presumably hoping to seal a move away as soon as possible.
