Santi Cazorla has strong ties to Villarreal, having enjoyed two separate spells there during his time in Spain. It was hardly surprising therefore, to see him celebrate their 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Europa League this past Thursday night.
The Arsenal star took to Twitter following his former side’s late winner, congratulating his side and wishing them luck in the second leg.

“Good result for Villarreal, one step closer to getting a title that the club, the team and the fans deserve,” he wrote.
It was a close fought game, with chances few and far between. Liverpool arguably edged it, but in the end a draw would have been a fair result. A quick counter right at the death and some poor defending from Liverpool gave Villarreal a last gasp winner though, putting the pressure on Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead of the second leg.
You’d still expect Liverpool to get the win at Anfield, but an away goal could really make things difficult for them when the La Liga side head to England.
Although it’s unlikely to make too much difference to us at this point, it could potentially be in our best interest for Liverpool to get knocked out by Villarreal. There’s a very small chance that if both Liverpool and Manchester City clinch the Europa League and Champions League, then we could be pushed out of the competition even if we finish fourth. Highly unlikely, but still a possibility, and one we should try to avoid.

Hopefully Cazorla will be back in action soon and will be celebrating some Arsenal wins too, not just wins for his former club.
