Mathieu Debuchy is contemplating an Emirates exit in January, with the right-back unhappy at losing his place to Hector Bellerin, as reported by The Telegraph. Debuchy has recently discovered that his international spot is under threat, and is therefore concerned about his lack of playing time.
The former Newcastle star was signed as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, who made the controversial switch to Manchester City last season. He looked like an excellent signing, but was unfortunately sidelined for the majority of the campaign following two nasty injuries.
Bellerin stepped up superbly in his place, and the young Spaniard hasn’t looked back ever since. Debuchy seemed to think he would automatically get his starting spot back when he returned from injury, and expected to be Arsene Wenger’s first choice this season. Bellerin has shown himself to be more than deserving of his place in the side however, and has unsurprisingly kept his more experienced teammate at bay.
As The Telegraph suggests, Debuchy contemplated leaving the club this past summer. He eventually decided to stay and fight for his place, but after recently losing his international spot with France, the report claims he is evaluating his options once again ahead of the January transfer window.
Debuchy has looked poor when given chances so far this season, so it’s not a shock that Bellerin has kept his place. The youngster should be our future right-back, but at the moment it could be tricky to let Debuchy go.

Carl Jenkinson looked excellent at West Ham last season – although he’s yet to really find his feet under new boss Slaven Bilic – and could challenge in the future, but we can’t leave ourselves short in January. Wenger would have to think carefully if a transfer request was handed in by Debuchy, as it’s a big decision.
