It appears as though Gabriel Paulista won’t be going to the USA for the Copa America this summer, with the Arsenal star dropped from the Brazil squad despite being named in Dunga’s provisional 40-man list.
Gabriel has endured mixed success at Arsenal, flip flopping from fan favourite to pantomime villain. He showed a huge amount of promise immediately after arriving, with many calling for him to permanently replace Per Mertesacker in the starting XI. He’s since fallen from grace somewhat though, with a number of high profile mistakes seeing him dropped.
The picture below shows the full 23-man squad for the Copa America this summer, and in all honesty it’s hard to see how Gabriel has missed out.

Gabriel is yet to earn a single cap for Brazil, and while he may not be starting XI material just yet, you’d argue that he deserves a place in the squad. He’s shown glimpses of real promise at Arsenal, and really one of his main shortfalls is his failure to grasp the English language. That obviously wouldn’t be a problem with his Brazilian teammates, so his omission is certainly questionable.
Arsenal transfer news
The 25-year-old is sure to be gutted after being left out yet again, but if he can continue to improve and nail down a starting spot at Arsenal then he’s sure to get called up eventually. If we sign another centre-back to partner Laurent Koscielny this summer then he could be in trouble though, and it could turn out that this season was his big chance to impress.
