Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has set his targets very high this season and is looking to challenge the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ballon d’Or in 2016, ESPN reports.
Ozil, who has visibly improved over the past six months after an indifferent couple of seasons with us, doesn’t necessarily strike as the player who chases individual awards.
Predominantly a creator, Ozil doesn’t seem capable of producing the individual moments of brilliance needed in order to gain the attention for such prestigious awards.
However, he is looking to change that and knows what he has to improve on.

“I have to become more dangerous in front of the goal,” Ozil said when asked what he had to do in order to land the Ballon d’Or.

“I was injured for long spells last season, and scored only five in 32 competitive games. I want to improve this. To achieve it, I have to be a bit more egotistical.”
Ozil has to improve in front of goal this season and has been set a ’10-goal’ target by Arsene Wenger given that the German star operates in a position high up the pitch (via the Daily Mail).
The pressure was on Alexis Sanchez to deliver the goals last season, but we’ll need a collective effort this time around given our profligacy in our opening four Premier League games.
