Mesut Ozil has long divided opinion by football neutrals who feel the German playmaker lacks work ethic and consistency since his big money move to Arsenal. That couldn’t be further from the truth especially these past few months, and the World Cup winner is now rightfully receiving plaudits left, right and centre including Decembers PFA Fans’ Players of the Month (via Sky Sports).
The Gunners midfielder picked up Novembers accolade too, and built on his impressive form by adding a further 5 assists last month to his incredible tally of 16 this season (via Whoscored) and 1 impressive goal against Bournemouth.
Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez and Watford striker Odion Ighalo were also favourites for the award, but Ozil’s consistency and remarkable form offered him the edge for the Premier League accolade.
In the past Ozil may have appeared lethargic, lacking passion to casual football fans, but there is no mistaking his undeniably impressive form this season. There is much more to come from the German, and even more so from the players around him who are often handed chances on a silver platter.
As Arsenal head into the second half of the season top of the table, Arsene Wenger needs to keep his star No10 fit at all costs if they are to maintain their title charge and win their first Premier League crown since 2003/04.
