Arsenal star Oliver Giroud has revealed that he was fully behind a potential move for his compatriot Karim Benzema, despite the fact that it would’ve probably resulted in him losing his position, Goal reports.
Giroud was speaking while in France ahead of the international break, and the fact that he’s mentioned the Real Madrid forward suggests that there was some movement behind the scenes.
Benzema put an end to rumours last week through his Twitter page, claiming that Real Madrid was his home. He has since netted his first goal this season at the weekend after his return to the team.

“The coach [Wenger] knows very well what he is doing, and sometimes you should not buy just to buy, and sometimes there are not players out there that you need, who are available,” Giroud was quoted as saying.

“We have a very good squad, with quality, and I am sure that with this squad we can go very far. But it would have been good if Karim had signed too.”
Giroud is the only player who has currently scored for us this season, with our other goals coming by way of the opposition turning the ball into their own net.
It highlights our issues at the moment and given that Giroud has never been a player capable of reaching the 20-goal mark in the Premier League, an extra presence is needed up front.
As the Benzema deal fades, fans will be hoping that Wenger has another player in mind before the window slams shut.
