Aaron Ramsey has been in fine form recently, and his performances have seen him ranked among the top 15 defensive midfielders in Europe, according to CIES Football Observatory.
The Welshman endured a difficult start to the campaign, especially when compared to his fantastic previous season. He has looked somewhat back to his best in recent months though, and has been a huge part of our late push up the table.
Despite spending much of his time out on the wing over the last few games, the Football Observatory have classified him as a defensive midfielder.
The calculations take into account a player’s rigour, recovery, distribution, take ons, chance creation, and shooting, to give an overall pitch performance out of 100. Ramsey has been given an impressive score of 74.2, with the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, and Arturo Vidal scoring similarly.

The players that top the list include Bayern Munich’s Xabi Alonso, Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti, and former Arsenal man Cesc Fabregas.
Ramsey is certainly in good company, with some top quality midfielders alongside him in the list. You suspect he might have been higher – or even topped the list – this time last season, and hopefully he can push on and really find his best form once again in 2015/16.
