Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud has refused to rule out the club’s chances of winning the title after we won our sixth Premier League game on the bounce. The Gunners odds have been slashed and now Arsenal are 18-1 with Betfred to lift the Premier League trophy.
After beating Newcastle, we lead the form guide and are now seven points behind leaders Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho’s side set to visit the Emirates Stadium, so whispers of a title challenge have surfaced.
Eventually winning at Hull after a slight scare, Chelsea look a shadow of the team that was storming their way through games earlier on in the season, and Giroud still believes there is a chance to pip our London rivals.
“We need to win all our last eight games,” Giroud said (via Daily Star).
“You have to believe. We need to focus on our games and take it step by step. If we can win ours, then we’ll see if City or Chelsea miss one of these steps.”
Giroud’s ambition is admirable, but we are closer to fifth place than we are to first, especially if Chelsea go on to win their game in hand. One defeat would drag us back into an intense fight for fourth place once again and focus should be fully geared on securing Champions League football – automatically too if that is possible.

Next week’s game against Liverpool could prove vital – win, and we could potentially kill off the top-four hopes of a main rival. Chasing the teams above us is natural, but seeing as it isn’t in our hands, talk of a title challenge seems unrealistic.
