Arsenal had a relatively busy few days towards the transfer window, letting players go or go out on-loan – Joe Willock was one of the most notable to Newcastle.
In quotes via Football London, Willock has revealed after moving to the north east that he was left ‘shocked’ by the plan that Newcastle manager Steve Bruce had for him in the first team, ultimately feeling really wanted;
“I was shocked. That was the first time I have spoken to a manager and they have had a whole plan for me. He called me a few times and there were a lot of things that made me think this is the right club for me.”
The 21-year-old may have hoped for more of a chance in the Premier League this season at the Gunners, with a side in transition, there could have been a place for the taking, but it never quite worked out that way, with just one 90 minute outing in seven appearances;
“I was disappointed with the number of games I have played for Arsenal in the Premier League. To come here and get more games and help the team and put Newcastle where they should be in the table.”
Willock shone in the Europa League for Arsenal, scoring three and assisting three in five appearances.
