Nacho Monreal has apparently agreed a new three year deal to keep him at the Emirates long term, putting an end to any talk of an exit for the Spaniard, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The former Malaga man has long been linked with a move back to La Liga, with Athletic Bilbao particularly keen on him due to his Basque roots (via the Metro). Bilbao are currently fourth in the Spanish top flight, so a return home could certainly be an attractive prospect, but Monreal has instead chosen to commit his future to Arsenal.
The 29-year-old is wholly deserving of a new contract, as he’s been one of our most reliable performers for quite some time. He has fought off competition from Kieran Gibbs to become our undisputed first-choice left-back, and doesn’t look like relinquishing his grip on his starting spot.
There were certainly question marks over Monreal’s credentials when he first arrived at the club, and he looked out of his depth at times. He steadily improved and grew accustomed to the rigours of the Premier League however, and has quickly become one of the best full-backs in the country.

His age suggests he may not be capable of competing at the highest level for that much longer, especially at left-back where plenty of mobility is required. He is yet to show signs of slowing down though, so a new deal makes sense for all parties.
