Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has talked up his relationship on the pitch with the creative genius Santi Cazorla and stated that playing alongside the Spaniard is simple, he told Arsenal Player.
Coquelin and Cazorla were positioned alongside each other in January – more by luck than through design – during what was a severe injury crisis for us.
Their chemistry and the balance they offered us was evident almost immediately and after their role in our famous victory away to Manchester City, Wenger’s first choice for the double-pivot position picked itself.
For Coquelin, however, he also stresses the importance of establishing partnerships with all the midfielders in the squad.

“It is easy to play alongside Santi because he is such a great player,” Coquelin told our media channel.

“We had a good chemistry last season, but there are many great players at this club that we can all play with each other.
“Last season with Santi was something special because we got a lot of praise, but the most important thing is that no matter who plays, we can get the result.”
Coquelin was partnered alongside Aaron Ramsey against West Ham United in our opening Premier League fixture and what transpired clearly didn’t impress Wenger.
Ramsey was restored to the wide-right role while Cazorla was returned to his central berth and, suddenly, we looked back to our best at Selhurst Park.
Calls for us to strengthen that department are prominent, but while we assess the options we currently have, Cazorla and Coquelin should be our first-choice midfield pairing.
