Arsenal look set to rekindle our interest in Portugal’s William Carvalho after his stunning display against England’s U21 side reminded many of his mature qualities, The Sun reports.
The report suggests that since Carvalho has a £37million release clause in his contract, we’ve tabled a £28.5m offer and hope that future add-ons will convince Sporting Lisbon to sell.
Carvalho, 23, was heavily linked with us last summer and The Sun indicate that we’ve already had a £20m offer rejected by the Portuguese giants.
Our defensive midfield department will be an interesting case this summer following the emergence of Francis Coquelin in the second half of the season.
Arsenal transfer rumours
While his form was impressive, Wenger must decide if he’s prepared to pay large sums of money for players who may have to be the Frenchman’s understudy.

One injury to Coquelin – which is rather inevitable – and we’ll find ourselves back in a familiar predicament with no other player in our squad capable of operating in that role.
It makes the story regarding Carvalho rather unrealistic and quite possibly manifested from his eye-catching display at the U21 European Championship.
Hopefully, the boss finds a player who he values in the market to provide some much-needed competition in that area.
