Arsenal target William Carvalho has stressed he is not looking to depart Sporting Lisborn this summer despite repeated interest from the Gunners and Manchester United.
The defensive midfielder has a £37million release clause however it was expected the Portuguese outfit would be willing to discuss offers around the £20m mark.
Arsenal are in need of a midfield enforcer and it had appeared Carvalho ticked all the boxes, however Arsene Wenger is unlikely to be able to secure a move for the 22-year-old after his recent statement.
The Portugal international reportedly said:
I have a deal with Sporting and I am a player of Sporting.
My present is this club and I am feeling very good with Sporting. It really has not entered my head to leave Sporting on the last day.
Carvalho has another four years on his current terms with Sporting and if the player himself is not pushing for a move it is very unlikely the Gunners will have any chance signing a midfielder who would’ve been the perfect addition to the engine room.
With Falcao joining United, Carvalho remaining in his homeland deadline day is not looking to good. Hopefully there will be some more excitement later on in the day.
