Rennes’ young striker Ousmane Dembele is apparently a top target of ours, and the teenager has now confirmed that he’s on the move this summer (via the Express).
Arsene Wenger seemingly has his eye on yet another young French forward, with Dembele one of the most highly rated young strikers in the world right now. At 18-years-old he has an incredibly bright future ahead of him, and understandably a huge number of clubs are pursuing him.
The Express claims Liverpool, Manchester United, Leicester City, and Borussia Dortmund are among the clubs we’re facing competition from, with the Bundesliga side apparently even going so far as putting an £11.9m bid in for the forward.
Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri also looked to lure Dembele to the Premier League, although the player himself explained that he’d turned Leicester down because he already knows where he’s going.
“Yes I spoke with Claudio Ranieri,” he said.

- Arsenal reportedly set to sign free agent after impressive trial
- Arsenal have ‘concrete interest’ in signing Bayern Munich II star
“I told him that I am not going to Leicester… I know where I am going.”
It’s unclear where he’ll be playing next season, but there’s no reason to think he hasn’t already chosen Arsenal as his next destination. He will have seen many French players succeed at Highbury and the Emirates before him, and the prospect of playing under Arsene Wenger may well appeal to him.
Arsenal transfer news
He’s not exactly the player who is going to take us to the next level, but he’s definitely a talented prospect. We still need to focus on the future despite our need for players capable of making an immediate impact, but hopefully Wenger also brings a couple of top quality forwards to the club this summer as well – if Dembele even is a target of ours.
