Arsenal rumours
As the Mirror suggests, Schneiderlin has been heavily linked with a move away from St Mary’s this summer, with the Frenchman attracting attention from a number of top European clubs. The pendulum has swung back and forth between us and Manchester United, but both clubs look to be evaluating their options and keeping tabs on other midfielders.
Louis van Gaal is keen on Bayern Munich veteran Bastian Schweinsteiger (via the Mirror), while we are apparently edging closer to a £22m move for Geoffrey Kondogbia (via the Express).
The young Frenchman is a real powerhouse in midfield, and caused us no end of problems in the Champions League last season. His compatriot Schneiderlin would offer Premier League proven experience, but the Express claims Wenger has his sights set on the Monaco man.
Both men would be excellent acquisitions, and we certainly shouldn’t be turning our nose up at either of them. We need some back up in that department, as Francis Coquelin has shown this past season just how badly we missed having a dominant, tough tackling midfielder in the centre of the park.
