Julian Draxler is a long-term target of ours (via the Express), with Arsene Wenger known to be keen on the 21-year-old. And the report suggests we could be in with a chance of signing him this summer, with his agent claiming a bid of €25m would be enough to tempt Schalke 04 into selling.
Draxler looked like one of the stars of the future a few years ago, and Wenger was understandably looking to bring him to the Emirates. He has failed to blossom into the player he was threatening to become though, and his stock has fallen dramatically.
The report reveals that the German star is currently in talks with Serie A side Juventus, but claims the Scudetto winners are yet to meet Schalke’s valuation of the player. Their bid of £14m is thought to be far too low, with the Bundesliga side hoping for closer to £21m.
His agent seems to believe the club will accept a lower fee however, with £17.5m likely to be enough to prise him away.
“I think a deal could be concluded for €25m (£17.5m). His release clause (£31.5m) is no longer applicable after June 30, and that will also apply for the next two seasons,” Draxler’s agent Roger Wittmann said, as quoted by the Express.
