Arsenal defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has insisted that teammate Alexandre Lacazette is a “goal machine” but admits he is struggling right now (via Arsenal.com).
There was a lot of excitement about the goal threat of Arsenal’s new front three but the goals and assists have largely been confined to two of the trio.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has bagged most of them and Nicolas Pepe has grabbed a few in recent weeks too, that just leaves Alexandre Lacazette.
The Frenchman hasn’t scored in his last seven Premier League matches, something which gets a little more troubling with the three-game ban for Aubameyang.
One of his Arsenal teammates has admitted that he is struggling right now but that things will turn around for him in front of goal.
“He’s a machine, a goal machine,” Sokratis told Arsenal.com.
“He’s a very good player. In some games, from the outside, you can’t see what he can do. Or maybe he is a little bit struggling. But we have see also how is the game and which guy he has behind him.
“I think he is a very good player, we are with him every time, he is with us and we will show all together in the future a lot of things.
“I think Laca is coming better and better. He’s very important, a massively important player for us. Altogether we have to improve, to step up and to show that the year is not finished and that we have to fight for this.”
Alexandre Lacazette is playing like a forward low on confidence right now. The Frenchman missed one really good opportunity on the weekend and one gets the feeling that a more confident Lacazette would have put the Gunners in front. Now, the former Lyon man has a couple of big matches to stake his claim up front.
