Arsenal have told Arsene Wenger he must accept a huge restructuring of the club if he is to remain as manager, according to ESPN.
Chief executive Ivan Gazidis and chairman Sir Chips Keswick have already begun making moves to put a plan in place for the future as they seek to loosen Wenger’s control.
The current situation is why there has been a delay in announcing Wenger’s future, ahead of him potentially signing a new two-year deal.
Arsenal want to overhaul the backroom staff, restructure the scouting department as well as introducing a new department that is not solely controlled by Wenger.
The club are also contemplating hiring a director of football although Wenger insisted only yesterday in his pre-match press conference that he is completely against that idea.
Wenger was reportedly offered a new two-year deal in January but the club’s subsequent awful run of form made the club bring forward their restructuring plans.

Both Gazidis and Keswick are reluctant to publicly back Wenger until he has accepted the changes they are keen to implement although there is no suggestion they will withdraw the new contract offer.
The club are also believed to be determined to make some high-profile signings this summer in a bid to placate fans who have made their feelings clear this season with protests staged calling for Wenger to leave.
Of course the club’s transfer activity will be heavily influenced by whether they finish in the top four and if Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil remain at the club.
