We have recently been linked with a record breaking bid for Gonzalo Higuain, and the Argentine has apparently told his current club Napoli he wants to leave, according to the Italian publication Calcio Mercato.
We were heavily linked with the former Real Madrid star back in 2013 (via The Guardian), but we were pipped at the post by Napoli. The Serie A side trumped us with a £34.5m bid (via the BBC), and we were left to rue our missed opportunity.
We are reportedly set to get a second bite of the cherry though, with Arsene Wenger willing to pay a record £43m (via Express) for his services. The report claims that Higuain has demanded to leave following the bid, but even breaking our transfer record may not be enough to land the South American star.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has apparently refused to consider a Higuain exit, insisting that the 27-year-old won’t be leaving unless his £64.7m release clause is met (via the Express).
