Arsenal are set to miss out on Atletico Mineiro star Bernard, with the Brazil international’s agent confirming he is set to join either Porto or Shakhtar Donetsk.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham have all been linked with the 20-year-old in recent weeks, but a move to the Premier League has become unlikely after the player’s agent, Adriano Spodato, admitted he would like his client to move to Portugal.
According to Goal.com, Spodato said :
I can confirm that the possibility [of joining Porto] is strong, but there is Shakhtar, too. It should be between those [clubs]. On Monday or Tuesday there should be something more concrete.
If it was up to me, Bernard would be a Porto player. I told him that this is the best way.
It is preferable to enter a medium, but good, European club, rather than risk a top club and have no space to play. Indeed, Bernard is very interested in going to Porto.
Bernard’s father Delio Duarte, also admitted that his son has his heart set on Porto after speaking to compatriot Hulk.

Duarte said :
He wants to continue his career at a club like Porto. He dreams of that. Bernard is Hulk’s friend, they became very close in the national squad and they talked about this.
Hulk spoke highly of the club, and [Bernard] was convinced it would be a safe bet for this stage of his career.
Bernard is a little man with a growing reputation. The attacking midfielder is just 5’4” but stands head and shoulders above his teammates in terms of talent.
His touch is immaculate, and probably one of his greatest assets. At the same time, he is a finisher who prefers to lurk around the 18-yard box allowing him to make good use of his ability to switch to wide positions and launch in crosses. Bernard would be a very good addition for Arsenal, especially considering how much interest there has been in the Brazilian from several of their Premier League rivals.
Wenger recently said that he wants to add top quality players that are not necessarily well known, a category that Bernard could be placed under. The Frenchman is not afraid to spend a decent chunk of money on young up and coming players, he’s spent a decent bringing in the likes of Ramsey, Walcott and the Ox over the years but with his father and agent suggesting Porto as his preferred destination it now looks like Arsenal will again loose one of their top targets.
What say Gooners?
