Arsene Wenger has been told to sign Manchester City’s Yaya Toure this summer, with former England U21s manager Stuart Pearce suggesting he’s exactly what we need, as reported by talkSPORT.
The out of work manager claims we need experience in the team, and believes the prospect of signing Toure – who has been tipped to leave Manchester City when Pep Guardiola arrives – is too good to pass up.
“On his day Yaya Toure is outstanding,” Pearce said.
“Arsenal need an old head within the team.
“Petr Cech has proved a fantastic success this year at Arsenal, and to have a player like Toure at the centre of midfield, as that holding type of player, I think he’d give one or two of the youngsters a bit of a lift.
“I think he’d be a good signing for them.”

Toure is unquestionably a supremely talented individual, but signing the 32-year-old this summer could end up being one of the biggest mistakes in Arsenal history.
He’s self centered, egotistical, and often incredibly lazy. In a holding role he’s a real liability, and when he doesn’t feel like tracking back, he doesn’t. He’s one of the Premier League’s more controversial players, and he could have a really negative impact on the club.
Arsene Wenger has worked hard to build a squad that gels well and Toure could really disrupt the squad cohesion. He demands to be the centre of attention wherever he goes, and that just wouldn’t be acceptable at Arsenal.
He may be capable of moments of real brilliance, but would that really be worth all the problems he’d cause?

All that is before price even comes into it, and not only are Wenger and Arsenal unlikely to sanction anything close to the £220,000 per week wages he’s currently on at Manchester City (via the Daily Mail), but with a year left on his current contract there’d be a transfer fee to consider as well.
It’s hard to see how Toure would really improve Arsenal, as despite his physical prowess and technical ability, he only plays for personal gain. Please Wenger, don’t listen to Pearce!
