Gabriel Paulista’s Emirates switch seems nothing more than a formality now, with the Brazilian’s move to the Premier League all but sealed. The Villarreal defender said his goodbyes to his teammates on Friday, and has played his last game for the club, according to Spanish publication El Periodico Mediterraneo.
The 24-year-old already looked likely to complete the move, but very few of us were counting our chickens as the issue over his work permit were threatening to derail things.
The player himself seems to have confirmed the move now, with Paulista saying farewell to his Villarreal team as well as the fans.
“Thank you very much to all,” he said to the fans.
Despite hoping to get the defender for a reduced fee, Arsene Wenger seems to have agreed to the €20m fee. There are also suggestions that Joel Campbell could be going the other way, with the Costa Rican struggling for first team football at the club this season.
