A day after the AGM, the papers are rife with speculation as to who Arsenal will buy in the January transfer window. Arsene Wenger promised that the club was looking to secure some signatures to help with the injury crisis, and as such several people have been linked to Arsenal. Here are a few of the top stories.
According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are considering a fresh bid for Celtic’s Virgil can Dijk. The defender was linked with a move to Arsenal over the summer as well, but the move never materialised. Now, with a budget of £20 million, Wenger is reportedly looking to bring in the 23 year old.
Injuries to Mathieu Debuchy and Laurent Koscielny, as well as a suspension for Calum Chambers, will force Arsenal to start against Hull City on Saturday with Nacho Monreal at centre-back and Hector Bellerin on the right. Thus the ex-Holland Under-21 player might be a good investment for the Gunners.
In another defensive story, the Express is claiming that Aston Villa are now prepared to sell their captain and centre back, Ron Vlaar. Both Arsenal and Manchester United were strongly linked with the player over the summer, but the defender chose to stay on at the Midlands.
Vlaar’s contract is set to expire in the summer of 2015, but the players obvious commitment to Villa means that any potential suitors will have to bid big, and Villa have reportedly set an asking price of around £12 million for the 29 year old. Vlaar’s Premier League experience and leadership qualities make him an ideal candidate for our defence, but as of now Louis van Gaal is the favourite to sign the Netherlands international.

And in some news from France, Arsenal target Edinson Cavani has reportedly told his current club Paris Saint Germain of his desire to make a move to the English Premier League.
Cavani was previously linked with a £55 million move to the Gunners over the summer, but nothing materialised. But with the player reportedly unhappy at his current club, Wenger may reignite his interest, though the asking price remains out of our reach.
