We all know that it has already been an exciting summer for Arsenal, and the rumour mill continues to churn out more reports linking us with more players. Here are some of the reports that have emerged in the last couple of days.
I recently flew from London to Los Angeles, which as anybody who has done the journey would know is an 11 hour flight. Before the flight I had no idea about this deal. In fact, I had even heard rumours linking him to Liverpool. But I landed with some reports suggesting we had signed the Southampton man!
The teenager had allegedly been subject to a £7,000,000 bid from Arsenal, which was promptly rejected by Southampton, before the two clubs agreed on a fee, £16,000,000, which which is just over double the original bid. The youngster missed Southamptons recent friendly match against Bournemouth, with him believed to be having his medical at Arsenal.
His arrival would surely push Arsenals current number 25 – Carl Jenkinson – out of the door, whether that be on loan or permanently.

It appears that Arsenals raid of the will not end with the signing of Chambers, as French international Morgan Schneiderlin is believed to be at the top of Arsene Wenger’s wish list this summer. That will not come as a shock to Arsenal fans, as it is well documented that if we realistically want to cement our place as title contenders for next season then we need to improve on our current players in that position – Mikel Arteta and Mattheiu Flamini,
Schneiderlin would be the ideal player to take this role. A crucial part of being able to effortlessly fit into the Arsenal team is to be an effective passer of the ball which he is, completing … of his passes last season. He is, of course, an excellent tackler which makes him ideal to fit into an Arsenal team which is often criticized for being two weak and not physical enough. His presence could give us the edge against big, strong teams like Stoke and West Ham, where we have struggled in recent years.
The midfielder is believed to want to make a switch to north London – be it to Arsenal or Spuds – however, surely we have the upper hand due to us being able to offer football in the UEFA Champions League? That being said the fee could be a possible stumbling point, as some recent reports suggest that Southampton will ask for £27,000,000 for their French anchor.
With the signing of Chambers to hopefully be completed soon, it will surely mean that Arsenal will not be pursing Catania defender Gino Peruzzi. The Argentine was linked with us last week, however he has spoke out in a press conference about his desire to remain at Catania and to help them back to Serie A.
I heard about the interest of Arsenal, but the club has not told me anything,
I am calm and I think I will stay here. I am just thinking of Catania and I really want to bring the team back into Serie A.
The future of Arsenal captain and third choice centre back Thomas Vermaelen has been quite a saga this summer. Many reports from around the web are claiming that Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal is desperate to bring Vermaelen to Old Trafford this summer, following the departures of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Barcelona have also, according to The Mirror, enquired about the availability of the Belgian. Vermaelen has struggled to get into the team since Arsenals deafeat (gulp) to the spuds in March 2013. Since then, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesaker have cemented their places as first choice, with the pairing going over two years without losing a game.
Barcelona and Spain legend Carles Puyol has retired, while fellow Catalan Gerard Pique has often looked less than impressive at the Camp Nou, new coach Luis Enrique is keen to improve his options at centre back.
Despite being packed in the attacking midfield area of the pitch, The Daily Star reports that Arsenal are planning to hijack Liverpool’s £20,000,000 move for Brazillian Robert Firmino. The South American currently plays for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga and collected 16 goals and 14 assists last season. It is believed that Wenger is interested in selling Joel Campbell to seven time European Cup winners A.C Milan in order to fund the move.
And finally, Arsenal have apparently contacted Barcelona youth keeper Andrey Onana with the view of him making the switch to the Emirates this summer. We have already raided La Masia this summer, snapping up German under-17 star Georgios Spanoudakis. One of Wengers trusted scouts, Francis Cagigao, is believed to be who recommended Onana. Arsenal are believed to want a swift reply, so they can chase other targets if needed.
