Arsene Wenger is keen to bring a striker to the club to relieve the pressure on Olivier Giroud next season, and has apparently identified Villarreal’s Luciano Vietto as the ideal acquisition, according to the Metro.
Arsenal transfer rumours
The young Argentine has been fantastic for the La Liga side this season, and is understandably attracting attention from some top clubs. The Metro reports we are facing competition from Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, and will have to work hard to secure his signature.
The report goes on to state that both we and Liverpool have activated Vietto’s £14.2m release clause, and are hoping to lure him to the Premier League next season.
The 21-year-old scored 28 goals in all competitions this campaign, and has been one of the brightest young stars in Spain. Villarreal may not be keen to let such a prodigious talent leave so cheaply, but if we meet his release clause then they won’t have much choice in the matter.
Not only does Vietto look like a player capable of improving massively in the future, he would also be able to have an impact immediately. This would be an excellent bit of business if we can get it done, but as of yet nothing has been finalised.
