Karim Benzema was seemingly our top target this summer, but we now look set to miss out on the Frenchman. Arsene Wenger has instead turned his attention to Edinson Cavani, with the Uruguayan the latest to be linked with a switch to the Emirates, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The Paris Saint-Germain star moved to the French champions for £55m (via BBC) back in 2013, but has seemed less than thrilled at playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Arsenal fans around the world were hoping to see Benzema arrive at the Emirates, but the 27-year-old has now committed himself to Real Madrid (via the Daily Mail).
Cavani may be second choice behind the Los Blancos star, but he would still be a quality acquisition. The former Napoli man has an excellent goalscoring record wherever he’s gone, and has scored freely for PSG despite being forced at wide at times.
His pace and power make him seem perfectly suited for the Premier League, so it’s not hard to see why Wenger is showing an interest.

The Ligue 1 side would presumably be looking to recoup a substantial amount of the £55m they splashed on the 28-year-old, but we badly need reinforcements up front so must be willing to spend big.
